Rite Aid’s Paul Harrington, Jen Beatty Take Home Top Category Management Awards
The relationship between our supplier partners and our category management teams is synergistic – working together as partners we achieve much more than we can achieve separately. The successes of our supplier partners would not be possible without the strong Category Management teams who work with them and vice versa.
To recognize the important contributions of our Category Management teams, Rite Aid announced the Category Manager of the Year and Associate Category Manager of the Year awards at our Annual Supplier Conference, held Sept. 11-12 in Harrisburg, Pa. Rite Aid Chairman, President and CEO John Standley and Chief Operations Officer Ken Martindale joined Executive Vice President of Merchandising Tony Montini in presenting the awards.
Category Manager Paul Harrington walked away with the top honor for his part in generating profitable sales and leading innovation in the beer, wine and liquor categories. In addition, Paul also manages the DSD purchasing and merchandising team of 11 Direct Store Delivery (DSD) field managers positioned strategically throughout the country.
“Paul designed and implemented new DSD symposiums twice a year with our largest DSD supplier partners and initiated three-year joint business plans with many of them. This enabled him to create special market initiatives for our western and southern divisions when the opportunity presented, including the implementation of a 130-store liquor program in the state of Washington,” Montini said. “Paul achieved a sales increase as well as improved margins, even while facing stiff competition from new entrees in the category.”
Rite Aid’s 2012 Associate Category Manager of the Year is Jen Beatty, associate category manager of optical, skin and bath programs.
“Jen’s detailed approach to open issues allowed us to improve upon challenges that have existed in the past and allowed the category manager to focus extensively on strategy,” according to Montini. “Her input into the selection of trend products has led to an improved apparel program and a dynamic, new accessories program that has been an outstanding complement.”
Both Paul and Jen received a travel voucher as a gesture of appreciation for their valuable contributions and service to our company and to our supplier partners.
Finalists for the Category Manager of the Year were Derrick Shaffer, general merchandise category and Matt Boyer, beverages, pre-paid gift cards and batteries.
Finalists for the Associate Category Manager of the Year were Mike Eline, photo category and Pat Hayes, summer seasonal and sporting goods.
