Rite Aid Engages Best Customers with wellness65+

07aThe company has successfully launched its free wellness65+ customer loyalty program for seniors, an extension of the highly popular wellness+ program. By the end of Rite Aid’s second fiscal quarter, which ended August 31, more than 930,000 seniors had enrolled in wellness65+ after just 2-1/2 months.

“We are very pleased with the strong initial results of the wellness65+ program,” said Rite Aid President and Chief Operating Officer Ken Martindale. “Early results indicate that seniors have been very receptive to this one-of-a-kind offering, and our Rite Aid team deserves a lot of credit for consistently engaging with our senior patients to let them know what this unique program has to offer.”

Those who enroll in wellness65+ enjoy the same rewards and benefits that have made wellness+ such a popular program, such as exclusive sale pricing, +UP Rewards, wellness rewards and the opportunity to earn 10 or 20 percent off front-end purchases for an entire year. wellness65+ members are also eligible for an expanded wellness65+ pharmacist consultation, during which seniors can bring in their current medications for a thorough review by a Rite Aid pharmacist who can also discuss immunization needs, conduct a blood pressure screening and answer questions regarding Medicare Part D.

Another popular benefit of the program is the 20-percent discount on eligible front-end purchases on “wellness65+ Wednesday.” Held the first Wednesday of each month at every Rite Aid store, wellness65+ Wednesday features themed health events covering topics such as skincare and heart health, while providing seniors with access to valuable health information and exclusive offerings.

Wellness65+ members can now earn one point for every dollar spent on co-payments for prescriptions supported by government-funded programs (except in New York and New Jersey) up to a maximum of 25 points per prescription. This is a key benefit for the many seniors who fill prescriptions through Medicare Part D.

As part of the wellness65+ launch campaign, Rite Aid has been engaging seniors through a nationwide wellness65+ Mobile Tour. The 6-month mobile tour has already hosted over 102 events in 14 markets throughout the Midwest, South and mid-Atlantic regions.

At each community event, local associates are teaming up with the wellness65+ tour crew to visit senior centers, retirement communities, mega churches or senior-attended community events, including several events that attract thousands of visitors.

In addition to learning about wellness65+, seniors have the opportunity to receive free health screenings, play games, enroll in Rite Aid programs and services at special kiosks and, most importantly, meet their neighborhood Rite Aid pharmacists and wellness ambassadors.

“Our mobile tour events have been very well received by seniors and are helping our local store teams establish relationships with potential new patients,” said Director of Segmentation John McRorie, who is helping to coordinate the various events. “Once seniors get to know our local teams, many of them are signing up for wellness65+ and transferring their prescriptions to Rite Aid.”

Denise Austin, America’s favorite fitness expert and a long-time friend of Rite Aid, recently joined the mobile tour in the Charlotte, N.C., market to tell seniors how Rite Aid can help them manage their health and wellness. She led seniors in a low-impact exercise class and stressed the importance of being active every day.

Meanwhile, seniors could take advantage of free medication consultations; preventive health screenings for blood pressure, COPD and diabetes risk; and the opportunity to meet their local Rite Aid pharmacy teams.

The wellness65+ Mobile Tour concludes in March after hosting or participating in more than 200 community events.
