Meet the Team: Rite Aid’s Vice President of e-Commerce Dean Bowerman
Rite Aid’s new vice president of e-commerce likes to think outside the box and coach young minds to do the same. Dean Bowerman, his wife, Carrie, and their four children are all involved in “Odyssey of the Mind,” a national team competition that encourages students to think innovatively and creatively. Dean and Carrie have coached Odyssey teams for eight years in Erie, Colorado, where the couple has made their home since 1996.
This commitment to innovative thinking is what led Dean to Rite Aid last December after a long and distinguished career in managing e-commerce efforts for Staples and Corporate Express office supply companies and Epsilon Targeting.
“I was looking for the right combination of opportunity and a clear vision, and found it at Rite Aid,” Dean says. “With the launch of the redesigned RiteAid.com (see related story), the company is positioned to take full advantage of the digital marketplace and I’m excited to take the lead in growing this business.”
Dean’s experiences include developing and implementing e-commerce technology platforms, driving customer acquisition and growing existing customer sales through advanced web analytics, search engine optimization and marketing. He is working closely with marketing, category management, information services, supply chain, customer service and store operations teams to assess Rite Aid’s ecommerce capabilities and needs and develop a roadmap for driving significant, sustainable ecommerce sales growth.
According to Senior Vice President of Marketing John Learish, “Dean is a seasoned e-commerce professional with a great blend of e-commerce strategy, development and practical execution. Not only is he a great visionary, but he also understands the e-commerce business from the ground up. We are proud and excited to have him direct our digital marketing efforts.”
A native of Tuscon, Ariz., Dean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado as well as an MBA in Market Strategy from Regis University.
In his free time, Dean balances his highly technical professional life by indulging his passion for sculpting. His family will be joining him in the Harrisburg, Pa., area later this year, where they have already made plans to continue their passion for Odyssey of the Mind.
