Associates, Suppliers Give From The Heart, Contribute $650,000 To United Way

united way logo0As the lagging economy forces many charities to meet increased demand for services with smaller annual budgets, Rite Aid corporate associates gave a helping hand by raising nearly $17,000 more than last year during its annual campaign to benefit the United Way Capital Region.

The 65-day campaign raised a grand total of $650,000.90, with the all-important 90 cents helping the company to eclipse its fund-raising goal.

“Our associates really gave from the heart this year,” saysGayle Rife, manager of The Rite Aid Foundation and a campaign organizer. “They stepped up to the plate and helped our company live up to its core value of being a caring neighbor to the communities we serve.”

Also helping were contributions from Rite Aid’s supplier partners, who donated and bid for items in the annual United Way Silent Auction, and donated products for theDepartmental Basket Challenge, where departments competed against one another to create the most popular themed basket. Associates bought $1 tickets to vote for their favorite basket with proceeds benefitting the campaign.

“Our vendors were very supportive of our campaign and have been for many years,” Rife says. “We are grateful for their strong support.”
